culpture Details:
Donald Duck is the Member Gift Sculpture for those collectors who joined the Walt Disney Collectors Society or renewed in calendar year 2008. Good Scouts is a 1938 American animated short film produced by Walt Disney Productions and released by RKO Radio Pictures. The cartoon follows Donald Duck leading his nephews Huey, Dewey, and Louie on a scouting trip through the wilderness. It was directed by Jack King and features Clarence Nash as Donald and the three nephews. Good Scouts was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film at the 11th Academy Awards in 1939, but lost to Disney's own Ferdinand the Bull. Also nominated that year from Disney were Brave Little Tailor and Mother Goose Goes Hollywood, setting the record for most nominations in the category for one studio. Good Scouts was the first Academy Award nomination for the Donald Duck series. The 2002 membership gift sculpture captured the lovely princess as she comforts a little bluebird alone in the forest. It was the first time a princess was featured as the Membership Gift sculpture, and she wAs symbolic of all the wonderful Disney films that began with this beloved character.
About Walt Disney Classic Collection:
The Classics Collection started in 1992 with three scenes, Bambi, Cinderella, and Fantasia's Sorcerer Apprentice. Some figurines were limited editions. The
WALT DISNEY CLASSICS COLLECTION
was the only collection of fine animation sculptures created using the time-honored principles of Disney film animation. As a result, each sculpture captures all the emotion and magic of the unforgettable characters and settings created by Disney. The entire collection has been retired. Some of these figurines have risen high on the secondary market. The figurines are made of porcelain, and the process is similar to that use to make Hummel figurines. Individual pieces were molded, put together, and fired in an oven. Then they were painted and fired again. Each figurine was marked on the bottom, signifying the year it was produced. The marks represent significant milestones in Disney history. The figurines with the first year mark are usually the most desirable.
